Embrace diversity. Educate your community. Empower each other. Love life

Each and every day we all live with our own personal struggles. Whether they are physical limitations, emotional stress, or financial burdens, we all have something we are dealing with. Although these times can be stressful and scary, things seems to be better when working it out with the support of family, friends and even helpful strangers. In the past month or two we have posted about a GoFundMe fundraiser for a well deserving family in need. Rafi Shiwa is a new young father who fell from his bed, hitting his head resulting in him becoming quadriplegic. Life as a father can be difficult on its own but now this family has to deal with the financial burden of medical costs.

Another client at our clinic is Jeff Marshall. While Jeff was in the hospital dealing with an injury resulting in him becoming paraplegic, a complete life change, he and his family took it upon themselves to raise money for Spinal Cord Injury. They stumbled across 3E Love Life Awareness Bracelets which helped them raise thousands of dollars.

Little did we know, Jeff and Rafi actually knew each other from the hospital. In fact, it was Rafi who told Jeff to look into Aim2Walk for his therapy. Once Jeff found out about the GoFundMe fundraiser for Rafi, he knew he wanted to help in any way he could. Jeff has kindly donated the remainder of the bracelets to Aim2Walk to help raise money for Rafi.

The unique heart and wheelchair symbol, used on the bracelets was designed by a young girl named Annie Hopkins. She had a vision and she explains it on her website:

3E Love, LLC. is a social entrepreneurial experiment to change the perception of disability. The company was started by siblings Annie & Stevie Hopkins in 2007 with the intent of promoting their unique symbol and social model of disability. The company’s trademarked International Unknown.jpegSymbol of Acceptance (wheelchair heart logo) is the drive behind it’s social mission to provide the tools for others to embrace diversity, educate society, and empower each other to love life. What was once just a small Chicago disability pride clothing brand is now an international movement of acceptance. People with disabilities are everywhere, and thousands of t-shirts and other items later, so is the 3E Love message.

“3E Love is more than living disabled but is simply about living. Everyone has the freedom to live their life. We challenge you to do what you love, because you’ll meet some amazing people along the way, and that, our friends, is how you’ll enjoy this ride that 3E Love calls, life.

Embrace diversity. Educate your community. Empower each other. Love life.”
– 3E Love Founder, Annie Hopkins (1984-2009)

Working together as friends, family and one community will help make the impossible possible. If you would like to help Rafi on his journey please donate on his GoFundMe page and/or purchase a bracelet from Aim2Walk.
