Blessed in Jamaica

Two of my besties and I arrived in the beautiful Jamaican sunshine one week ago. Right away we were showered with kind smiles and happy, vibrant people.

Knowing a local here in Jamaica meant we didn’t have to wait for a bus from the airport and we jumped into a friend’s van who took us to “our home” for the next 9 days. The staff at Secrets resort in Montego Bay has been nothing short of fabulous since the moment we entered the gates. So far we have had many days of lounging on the beach, soaking in the sun and swimming in the clear blue ocean. We’ve gotten to know the locals and enjoyed many nights watching the amazing evening shows, singing with the piano man and dancing at the disco. We have less then three days left and already so many stories to share.

Yesterday, my ladies and I went on an adventure off the resort. We were picked up in my friends work van (thank you Marlin Madness tours!) and toured around to some local shops and food spots. We conquered the Dunns River Falls without any injuries and loved every minute of it. Next we found ourselves driving down an extremely bumpy road (if you want to call it a road) and greeted with smiles and love from several small children playing soccer. We had no idea what we were doing there except that we had asked our wicked tour guide Garett, to be taken to a hidden treasure of Jamaican culture.

We entered the red, yellow and green painted fence and were told we had come to a place of healing water. The small watering hole had a continuous spout of IMG_7650water bursting out from the earth. Story has it, that the grandmother who is currently at the young age of 114 years old, has bathed in this water everyday, her entire life. The fascinating thing about this water is that, it can be lit on fire. Once
it was burning with flames, we were asked to get into the hole and they began to bless us with the water. Now, I have to be honest, I’ve never been to a spa for any special massage treatments, however being a massage therapist myself, I can tell you, I’ve never had a treatment quite like this. The men treating myself and my friend, drenched a towel in the water and fire then placed the towel on each part of our body while massaging it into our muscles. My friends headache was immediately eradicated and I felt an instant sense of calmness and peace.

Although I have several days left of my Jamaican adventures, I couldn’t help but share my story.

Stay tuned for more of my adventures.
