The Grind

Since daylight savings time has occurred, I’m finding that waking up for my early morning workout is nearly impossible. Each night, with good intentions, I set my alarm for 5:50am to be at the gym by 6. I don’t even have to leave my building, literally just jump into the elevator and go down a few floors. So why is it so hard to wake up lately?

Perhaps my body are telling me something!

With the days being shorter and colder, our bodies naturally go into hibernation mode. Hundreds of years ago this was because of the lack of food during the winter months. Now with planes, boats and automobiles, we can receive food from just about anywhere in the world at any time of the year. Although this is so, our bodies still recognize the colder temperature as well as the lack of sun. I recently posted a blog about SAD (seasonal affective disorder) which is common this time of year. Be sure to re-read this blog to be aware of the signs and symptoms and learn how to deal with it before it gets out of control.

One night before going to bed, just after I set my alarm for the fourth attempt that week to get up early for the gym, I came across this Nike commercial. This video gave me the motivation I needed to get my butt up and out of bed that next morning. If you’re anything like me and feeling less motivated to keep active through the winter, take a look at this video and hopefully it will help you continue.

I like to remind myself, if my clients push themselves to workout and get better, I should be able to too!
